William H. Gray III 30th Street Station Facade Restoration

Amtrak's famous Philadelphia 30th Street Station completed an extensive facade restoration in 2020. The project scope included the repair and restoration of all the exterior surfaces of the building, as well as the east and west viaducts; including repairs to the exterior limestone, granite, and brick masonry; repair and restoration of the cast iron curtain wall system and the associated window sash and glazing; restoration of the clerestory windows at the exterior of the concourse; and replacement of windows in the light courts. Other related work includes blast mitigation for street facing windows, bronze door restoration, copper repairs, concrete repairs, and thermal improvements of the restored windows.
About Our Speaker
Jessica Fair specializes in the investigation and repair of historic residential and commercial buildings. Her work includes facade condition assessments, masonry restoration, and historic materials conservation on numerous National Register-listed structures, as well as many university, medical, and high-end residential construction projects. Jessica has a Bachelor of Architecture from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Building Conservation from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She is a registered architect in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Since joining WJE in 2015, Ms. Fair has been regularly involved in the evaluation of brick, masonry, metal panel, and EIFS facades, as well as water leakage investigations, peer review services, and construction documents preparation. She has been involved with the facade restoration at Amtrak’s 30th Street Station since work began in 2015.
