| Eastern Chapter of the Structural Engineers Association of Pennsylvania |
Presented By: Shana Carroll, P.E., Northeast Engineer; Geostructures, Inc. and Keithe Merl, P.E., CPESC, Northeast Regional Engineer; Geostructures Inc.
Collaboration between geotechnical engineers and structural engineers is critical to project success. Yet, so often the two design team members aren't speaking the same language. The goal of this presentation is to bridge the gap between geotechnical engineers and their structural counterparts. The basics of geotechnical engineering and soil borings will be presented along with the lab and in-situ testing. The presentation will conclude with descriptions of various foundation support options that have been used in the Philadelphia metro area including Rammed Aggregate Piers, Drilled Shafts, and Ductile Iron Piles, among others. Attendees will leave the presentation with a better understanding of geotechnical engineering that will allow them to better collaborate with geotechnical engineers for more successful projects.
