Kinked Connections - What Are They and Why Should I Care?
Presented By: Clifford Schwinger, P.E., The Harman Group
For structural engineers designing building structures, the best load path is usually a direct load path. This applies to floor framing design as well as connection design. This presentation discusses "kinked connections" – connections where the load path through connections is not a direct one. Failure to identify kinked connections during design can lead to problems during construction. This presentation reviews issues related to kinked connections, discusses how to address them during design to avoid problems, and reviews a variety of examples of kinked connection details.
